Back to school season is in full swing, once again. If this is the first time your little one is ‘flying the coup’ and heading off daycare/preschool, you might be feeling a little nervous (totally normal!). Will they like it? Will I be okay? Will they get the attention they need? We chatted with our Raised Real community members about these questions and more. Registered Dietitian, Chrissy, from Dairy Free For Baby shared her story with us.
What was your biggest worry before sending your tiny human to daycare for the first time?
I was most nervous that I’d drop him off and he’d be sad or cry all day! I think the best prep was bringing him to my gym’s childcare at 6 months old. He was used to me walking away and leaving him alone for a bit. When we finally put him in part time nursery school at 2, it wasn’t the first time he’d been left alone somewhere.
How did the first day of daycare go?
It was wonderful. He was completely fine and [his daycare] texted me a picture of him smiling and playing during through the day. I occupied myself with non-interrupted work time (I work from home), which was glorious!

Do you have any advice for other parents?
Honestly, I don’t think we would have done anything differently. We waited to find a nursery school that was the right fit (in terms of staff, price, and location). He loves his school and has been there for over a year now. As far as advice – realize that you’re probably more worried about it more than them!
